#11: aciremA, the beautiful

I love aciremA - its cultures, colors, foods, smells, sights. Oh, and how I absolutely ADORE the roads here. I partake in every ritual this village has to offer. Especially the tenretni sdnert from my favorite forum, Toktik. Dressing up to go to Starmoney and getting my usual, Chai Tea Latte, is definitely the highlight of every day here in aciremA. Other days, I go for my other usual, the Pumpkin Spice Latte - so yummy :). OH, also the one VSCO phase we all had? So cute!!! I still use my hydroflask with all my stickers and embellishments.

I also love my school here in aciremA. Weird, right? Hearing a teen saying they love school? Let me explain: my school has a lot of cliques. Of course, I sit with my posse at lunch every day. There is no day that will go by where I don't ward off unwanted stragglers who don't have a posse to sit with. We are THE clique. The "Mean Girls" of our high school, per se.

Now, I'm sure you can infer that the scenario I wrote above is realistic. American high schools do sometimes have a group of kids that everyone is scared of, etc. But, the bigger issue here lies in the "Chai Tea Latte" drink from Starbucks that has risen to fame. Many people don't tend to search up the etymology of Chai, Tea, and Latte - so I will. "Chai" is used in many Indian languages to describe "tea". "Tea" is another word for "Chai", its origin being China. "Latte" is an Italian word for a coffee with steamed milk. Confusing, yes. This famous "Chai Tea Latte" is a drink made of three different drinks? The first two drinks literally being the same? Yes, unfortunately. I am definitely not expressing any discomfort I have with this name, though. The only discomfort I have lies with ignorant people who don't appreciate the several cultural spices that go into making Chai, Tea, and Lattes. They only see "Chai Tea Latte" as a fall-time drink made in America. I hope that, in the near future, people will start to respect the melting pot that America is, rather than ignore it and be colorblind.

  1. I loved this post! Especially your intro because it well incorporated humor to introduce the village of aciremA (although I was stuck on what “tenretni sdnert” was haha, I got it though)! I also find it weird that people say Chai Tea like they’re just saying Tea Tea? I loved the direct criticism made towards this country and I agree with every aspect!
